Mountain Biking and Hiking
With acres of beautiful mountains, blue skies and wildflowers galore planning a trip to Vail without your hiking or biking shoes is a mistake. There are plenty of trails and mountain tops to explore for all ability levels. Unsure about where to go? Local shops and the Vail resort can set you up with maps and even a guided tour. Rental shops in the area carry top of the line bicycles and there are plenty of outdoor shops for last minute hiking needs.

Looking for an exciting way to spend Labor Day? Head to Vail for their international jazz festival. Featuring top musicians from all over the world, this event offers exceptional music in an intimate setting. It's a sure thing for music lovers and musicians alike.
Vail America Days
Fourth of July wouldn't be right without a parade and fireworks, both of which are renowned in Vail. The celebration includes a parade, music and fireworks. There are plenty of activities for everyone in the family to enjoy and most of them are free! It's a great time to enjoy the fresh mountain air while still taking part in traditional fourth of July festivities.
Vail International Dance Festival
For 20 years, Vail International Dance Festival has brought to the stage some of the greatest dance artists from around the world. With over a full week of performances that range from classical ballet to modern tap, there is sure to be a performance for everyone. Beyond performance, the Dance Festival also brings classes and community events. The festival usually occurs in late July or early August but check local listings for exact details.
Vail Nature Center
In the center of Vail you'll find the seven acre Vail Nature Center. Surrounded by trees and situated alongside the banks of Gore Creek, this places offers fun and educational opportunities for everyone. Family and children's programs include wildflower walks, beaver pond tours and star gazing. For adults, the center offers backcountry hikes and for those interested in educational opportunities the center often times has photography and art classes as well as painting excursions and other workshops. Rafting and kayaking
Enjoy being on the water? Then Vail is definitely the spot for you. The town has it's own whitewater park in the center of the village and river trips are available on the Eagle, Colorado and the Arkansas rivers. Guided trips and lessons are available for those who need or want them and rental shops do cater to out of town guests. Rates and up to date information is available at local shops and at the mountain.
Fishing
With many rivers and streams to choose from, fly fishing is a rewarding activity for young and old visitors alike. Free casting clinics are offered at Vail Village and there are plenty of shops that will offer advice on best spots. Lessons and guided trips can be arranged quite easily for multiple skill levels. This is a great way to spend an afternoon, or many afternoons, and gives you a fantastic view into the natural beauty that surrounds Vail.
